MOTU 1248 Thunderbolt Audio Interface
Let me start by qualifying myself for this review. I am a small-band gigging musician who strives to make the best possible experience for the audience while simplifying setup. I am a drummer and guitar player in two different bands for the pure pleasure of it. In both cases I play through a Bose L1 Model II most of the time. I play electric and acoustic guitar, and rely solely on amp modeling (Effectrode, 2 Note Torpedo Cab and Strymon products) rather than guitar amps. I play drums (VDrum TD-30) as well, and have relied heavily on the Motu Traveler MK3 and Hybrid MK3... in a large part due to the CUE system. There have been few alternatives to these compact powerhouses. However, I grew to become very familiar with their short-comings and aspired for something greater from MOTU, Mark Of The Unicorn, as I knew them back in the late 80's. I've waited nearly 2 years for a successor to MOTU's MK3 line. The Beringer X32 Rack came along, but I decided to pass because of it's larger size.
